Twitter is a powerful tool once its full potential is tapped into. How are people using Twitter for personal reasons? Find out now.

For many people Twitter has completely changed the way they use the web and connect online with other denizens. Below are some of the potential and tangible benefits of using Twitter for personal use.

Twitter as a Research Tool

People that use Twitter frequently have discovered the benefits of using it as a research tool. This has replaced the previous dependency many people had on search engines such as Google. This is because Twitter allows users to tap into the large virtual online community which features people from anywhere in the world in order to discover what they are thinking, experiencing and feeling at any point in time. In a way, Twitter does make a user smarter because by having a large network of followers, they tap into a pool of knowledge and experience that the particular user benefits from.

As they say - two heads are better than one. Twitter allows users to tap into group power and potential by creating networks of followers. Users may use Twitter personally to write posts for their blogs as they request for ideas and experiences to be shared by their readers, and they may also get help from someone who may have experienced the problems that they may be having.

Twitter users are now turning to their followers with questions instead of the traditional Google search box. By employing the use of Twitter tools such as TwitScoop, users are able to get the scoop on the latest trends in the Twitter universe, as Twitter is more or less a news service which is normally ahead when it comes to breaking news.

Using Twitter for Branding

In order to have a strong personal online brand, one may have a blog, website or social networking site, forums and social messaging sites. Twitter works in the same way to strengthen a brand. One may find that their blog readers who had been previously lost are now returning followers on Twitter. Also by posting tweets, bloggers may get to remind followers to read the blog, as tweets are much more effective reminders than the RSS feeds on a blog.

Twitter also increases one’s online presence when a photo is included in a Twitter profile. Long lost pals are likely to recognize the photo and contact the Twitterer. For bloggers who are interested in providing information to readers and drawing them together into a community network, Twitter is the best platform as it reinforces the personal brand presence of the individual.

Using Twitter for Networking and Collaboration

Twitter is a platform that always provides a means for a user to interact with other smart, insightful and talented Twitterers. A user may find that these interactions may lead to the development of new ideas and temporary collaborations on projects, and even long-term partnerships. Twitter allows users to not only begin new relationships, but also to deepen and strengthen existing ones.

Twitter is great for directing traffic to one's personal website. By posting a link of a project a user is working on online, they may have followers logging on to the project page directly form Twitter. Or even have followers, promoting their links on their behalf on Twitter, by simply re-tweeting the user’s original tweets.

All in all, tweeting for personal use is a great way for users to never feel like they are alone, in particular, the users who work from home, and who may feel isolated, disconnected and lonely sometimes. It is normal for people to miss the chit chat and opportunities for face-to-face collaborations that they had when working in the normal office environment. But with Twitter, users may now share ideas, jokes and chat about anything beneath the sky to their hearts content. And when someone needs to get some work done, one simply logs off Twitter to get away from the endless chit chat.
