The social networking site is full of doors filled with updates of one's daily life. But it doesn't mean every door offers a great tweet.

If the Internet is the conglomerate of instant information, then Twitter has consistently been its employee of the month in the past year. Indeed, the social networking site has blossomed into the one-stop portal for Internet users. Celebrities, magazines and some churches have jumped into the bandwagon. But with 18 million members, Twitter can sometimes be filled with mundane tweets and following the right people can be tricky. These are some of the dos and don'ts in the Twitter realm.

Use Twitter as More than Just a Venue to Stalk Celebrities

There are far more interesting people to follow on Twitter than just the faces popularly seen in tabloids. While Twitter has definitely bridged the gap between celebrities and the normal folks, it has also revolutionized the dissemination of news. Many media outlets now offer updates via Twitter. Following news on Twitter with just a few clicks sure beats newspaper stains on anyone's fingers. Plus, it combines different news in one outlet, whether it's sports, international or business. But if celebrity tweets still lingers in the mind, then...

Only Follow Interesting Celebrities

Choose celebrities that make the most out their 140 characters rather than those who only tweet to bring more attention to themselves with self-indulgent updates. For example, Ellen DeGeneres uses Twitter mostly to promote her talk show but at least she goes about it in a funny way. Run DMC rapper turned reality TV star, Reverend Run (@RevRunWisdom), is another great celebrity to follow. Rather than just updating members with his current whereabouts, Rev. Run utilizes his Twitter account to inspire people with uplifting words everyday.

Clean the Cutter. Don't be Afraid to Unfollow

If anyone is not producing enough interesting tweets, don't be afraid to nip them from the list. Not only does it avoid reading unnecessary details about someone's life, it also make one's home page easier to navigate once all the unwanted messages are out of the picture.

Last, but not Least, Take Advantage of the Perks

Fashionistas should follow shopping-oriented Twitter accounts to get the latest scoop on sales and fashion events happening in their respective cities. Book lovers should follow users like Chapters Indigo for great deals on literature. And foodies can follow the Food Network and other tweeps alike for mouth-watering recipes. Twitter should be about getting the latest updates in all types of genres, in one place and in 140 characters or less. So it only makes sense to take full advantage of everything it has to offer.
