The Super Poke Pets application on Facebook is fun for adults and teens. Find out more about this virtual pet program.

Facebook is not only a great social networking tool to keep in touch with family, classmates, and friends. It is also a terrific way to meet new friends through the power of Facebook applications.

One application that has skyrocketed in popularity is Super Poke Pets. It gives people the opportunity to own and care for a virtual pet.

Adopt a Super Poke Pet

The first thing to do in Super Poke Pets is to adopt a pet. There are:

  • Monkeys
  • Pandas
  • Dogs
  • Cats
  • Frogs
  • Turtles
  • Chickens

Plus there are many more to choose from.

Once a pet is adopted, it is given a name that the owner chooses. A pet can always be exchanged for a new pet, but the name sticks with the new pet, as there is not currently a function available to change pet names. Keep in mind that if a new pet is chosen, the old one goes to the pound.

It is important to note that one does not need to officially become a member of Super Poke Pets to have a pet. Those who are not members are restricted to what features can be accessed, though. Friends in this situation are limited only to the friends one has through Facebook. There is more about this below.

Customize a Habitat

The next step is to choose a habitat for the pet to live in. All pets are given a playground to start off with, but there is always the opportunity to buy a new habitat or two at any given time. Habitats can be switched as many times as desired, so a pet is never constricted to one habitat for a long period of time.

Buy Items

Now comes the chance to decorate a pet's habitat with all kinds of goodies. The Pet Shop offers:

  • Furniture
  • Flowers
  • Apparel
  • Toys
  • Plushies (and more)

The folks at Super Poke Pets try to offer new items to buy every Thursday, but it is a good idea to check daily, in case things come out sooner.

The forum on Super Poke Pets has a thread on trading items as well. This makes it easy to find exactly what is needed for a particular habitat, by trading something unwanted for something really wanted. For example, one can exchange a lamp for a rug, and the trade takes place between Super Poke Pet members.

Move Up in the Ranks

The goal in Super Poke Pets is to earn coins and power points. Coins are what allow members to buy items. Coins are earned through playing with pets, both the one that is owned and other people's pets. There are also "Gold" items that can be purchased with real money. The "Gold" items are animated, giving a habitat some action.

Power points are earned by how much a pet is played with and taken care of. The owner must take care of her pet, but friends also contribute to power points by how much a pet is played with. To gain the maximum number of friends, it is a good idea to become a member of Super Poke Pets, which allows one to participate in the forums, add new friends (only through Super Poke Pets, and not through Facebook), and enjoy rewards that non-members cannot access.

Does Super Poke Pets seem silly? Adults playing with imaginary pets is a bit funny to some. But, this fun application on Facebook is growing in popularity, and there must be a reason for it. Perhaps it gives adults an outlet to express creativity and meet new friends. And let's face it, taking care of a virtual pet is a lot easier than the real thing.
